Mavericks Struts Its Stuff

Mavericks

perfect conditions made this year's mavericks big wave surf contest down in half moon bay totally epic. a clear, windless, sun drenched day accompanied the 30 foot plus waves setting up a beuaty of an afternoon for participants and spectators alike.

a south african charger named Grant Baker won the contest this year, marking the first time in the event's 5 year history that a santa cruz local has not secured the top spot.

Baker took home $30,000 for the effort along with a barrel full of madd cap bragging rights. for more event info, check out the SF chronicle's coverage or tap into the ultra deep MavSurfer.com.
