Hey... Hey... Hey, How 'Bout Some Bojon Reggae

oh yeah, the FOURTH annual Bojon Reggae Shindig is upon us...

that's right, the Kingdom of Bojon is stoked for our upcoming hawiian-style bash this saturday, june 19 at broadway studios in san francisco.

roll out the hawiian shirts and hula skirts 'cause we've dialed up a glorious playground complete with jammin' reggae, tasty mai tais, killer surf footage, and POSITIVE VIBRATION, YEAH!!!

Reggae Shindig

doors will open at 8pm and stay open 'til 2am. arrive early to beat the line and take advantage of the EARLY BIRD SPECIAL - 2 FOR 1 MAI TAIS ('til 10pm).

the opening band, Justi-Fi, comes on at 9:30, offering up a high energy combination of reggae, hip-hop and old-school funk all rolled into one.

Pacific Vibrations then takes the stage after 11 to throw down an original blend of upbeat ska rhythms and classic reggae roots, set off by an eclectic dosage of horns. this self-styled reggae/ska/roots/surf/jam band brings strong energy to the equation and will be a real treat.

Pacific Vibrations

RSVP for this shindig to get on the list and knock $5 off the cover. the deadline to RSVP is this thursday. tix will also be available at the door the night of the show.

spotted lounging at his cabana somewhere near wrightsville beach, the Bojon founder himself waxed philosophic about the anticipation for this year's shindig:

    Ooh, yeah; well, alright
    We're jammin'
I wanna jam it with you
    We're jammin', jammin'
And I hope you like jammin' too

The Gipper

The Gipper

sad to bid farewell to ronald reagan today. much loved and revered. an actor turned politician who was an outright leader. for better or for worse.

alzeheimers is a terrible disease. i've heard reagan did not even remember he was president for the past ten years. my heart cried today. for the whole scene. for nancy.

lots of security. imagine that pew at the national cathedral. amazing.

over and out. rarely get political because that's up to the individual. no right or wrong. but more right than wrong. at least that's what i hope for.

peace

and ray charles as well. legends...

Sharks Can't Fly... Can They?

amazing story in the SF Chronicle the other day about 3 local chargers who kite-boarded from the farallon islands to the san francisco bay.

let me repeat: KITE-BOARDED FROM THE FARALLON ISLANDS TO SF.

wow, that's a heavy feat.

Lunch

for those of you not familiar with the farallon islands, they are a smallish archipelago about 30 miles west of the san francisco coast line (visible on a clear day).

Shark Zone

but the distance traveled is not the most impressive part. nor is the fact that these three navigated the famously strong currents and unruly swells.

rather, the impressive part is that they made it past the sharks, baby, THE SHARKS.

that's right, the farallons are best known for the dense population of great whites that dwell in them thar parts.

think: shark week on the discovery channel. think: 20 foot, multi-ton eating machines who dine on the seal population but also will sample just about anything that crosses their path. think: every ocean goer's worst nightmare.

the three guys that made the trip were: Steve Gibson, Chip Wasson, and Jeff Kafka. clearly, they've got the free spirited essence of bojon in their blood.

Home Free

when it was all said and done, the entire crossing took about 2 hours. however, it was likely the first leg of the journey in the shark zone that was the most intense.

commented agent Gibson: "My pucker factor, at the thought of sharks, was huge. But sharks can't fly, and kite-boarders can."

yeah, that's right. sharks can't fly, can they?

eh...
